We’ve all had that moment where we can’t find the remote, and then we discover it on the coffee table in front of us, where it had been sitting all along. How on earth did we miss it? It wasn’t even hidden!
Perhaps that’s how Hagar felt when she saw a well right in front of her. At that time, she was at her lowest place. She and her child had been suddenly kicked out of their home and sent into the wilderness, where she was now out of water and expected that her child was close to death. But then God opened her eyes, and she noticed the well. God met her in her most desperate moment.
Sometimes in our desperate moments, God will also open our eyes to see into the spiritual. For example, a friend of mine opened up to me about some incredible difficulty they were going through. They needed guidance and I knew I could help. After talking with them, we walked out into the parking lot where they gave me a strange look. God had opened their eyes to see a beam of light coming off of my head and shooting into the sky. They were desperate, and they now saw that the help they needed was right in front of them.
Sometimes the answers we’re looking for are not as far away as we might think. Where would I be today if God had not met me in many desperate places?
