6. Sons of Sunday | Sons of Sunday
There are a few jams on Sons of Sunday that really find a groove. I especially enjoy W.D.H.D and HOLYGHOST.
5. Magnificat | Gungor
Gungor’s faith journey has been a bit all over the place in recent years, and I’m not fully sure where he lands at the moment. There are a few vague lyrics in here that feel troublesome, but dang… the music is incredible. I especially enjoy the songs Like Hallelujah and Same Sky.
4. Reconstruction | Lecrae
Over the last few years, people have been throwing around the term “deconstruction”—and rightfully so, as the church has given people plenty of reason to rethink their faith. But now people are coming back to the table as they reconstruct, and Lecrae has brought a powerful voice to the conversation.
3. Throwing Paint | Abbie Gamboa & Aodhán King
Abbie Gamboa is my kind of worship leader. The ambient-ish sound and the intimate lyrics make for really powerful albums. I’m glad she and Aodhán King partnered up to release this solid album.
2. Loose Ends – EP | eightFour and Calah Mikal
A short EP that’s right in the vein of the kind of music I love to replay over and over again. I can go through it several times without even noticing.
1. When Faith Feels Far | Faith Child
This British rapper just dropped a new album, and I was really impressed with the content of it. About half the songs fall into the kind of rap I enjoy, but the whole album is solid and caught me by surprise. I had never heard of Faith Child before this week, and I’ll be listening in the future.
0. Breach | Twenty One Pilots
Not to prophesy, but Twenty One Pilots’ new album Breach will be my favorite album this year when it releases on September 12th. But that’s just because they’re one of my favorite bands these days and go all the musical places I long for musicians to go. I’ll come back in a few months with some new albums and confirm my love for this album then. 😉
Original New Music
It wouldn’t be fair to add all the music I produced to this list, but should you like to check out the three albums I produced and recorded this summer, here they are 🙂
Dreamscapes and Dragons | Amity Grace
Please Don’t Feed the Dark | JaiBird
Holy Ruckus | Jamin Bradley
