Thanks to WLNS for featuring our event today!
For the second year, our church hosted Jackson’s annual Project Homeless Connect. It’s an event where the city’s homeless can meet dozens of organizations that can help them, get a free haircut, flu vaccines, lunch, and more. It’s put on by the Jackson County Continuum of Care, a local coalition I serve on and built the webpage for.
I’ve been trying to reach the homeless in our city for 8 long years and recently had a lot of success when our church changed models to dinner church. Obviously, many homeless are hungry and find the idea of dinner and church appealing. Serving with other organizations around town has been another way to easily get involved in outreach, and I love hosting this event. It’s great to get involved with what’s already going on rather than try to reinvent the wheel.
