“Christians would make a deal with the devil if it ended abortion.”

This thought has been going through my mind for a while now, which I wasn’t overly eager to turn into a post. But when it resurfaced in my head today, it came with the story of Jesus in the desert being tempted by Satan.

The offer was simple: Jesus could be given all the political power he wanted—all he had to do was worship Satan. Of course, once you’ve changed your God from Yahweh to Satan, it doesn’t matter what power you’ve inherited, because you yourself have changed, for you become what you worship.

Whatever victory you hoped to achieve is lost at that point. Even if you receive your heart’s desire, there are horrific, unimagined consequences, because that’s how genie stories always go.

The Christians who have devoted themselves to the MAGA movement have stumbled into such a deal. Revelation pictures scenarios like this as the church following a beast that tries to look like a lamb but speaks like a dragon. When we buy into false messiahs and embrace their false gospels and follow their false teachings that all run counter to the Sermon on the Mount, we establish Babylon on the earth instead of Heaven. Such crowds think they’re doing good for Jesus, when in reality, they’re operating under a fallen deal with the devil that has messed with their hearts and minds until they can no longer tell.

May we listen to the prophet John: “Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.” (Revelation 18:4-5)
