If you want to figure out what your prayer and worship life is really like, remove yourself from people. When people are watching us pray and worship, our thinking, intentions, and actions shift. We are called to pray and worship with others, so we can’t escape this dynamic, but we can check our hearts by regularly praying in our rooms, as Jesus instructed.

Now this is going to feel like a jarring connection, but try to stay with me:

This is why porn isn’t real sex and can never be real sex.

While prayer and worship can happen in your room and with a crowd, sex can only ever happen in your room. The moment the camera enters so the crowd can watch, the thinking, intentions, and actions of the lovers (if they even are that) shift. The presence of the camera turns intimacy to porn and it cannot return to intimacy.

Porn is a powerful illusion. It cannot and will not ever offer an audience anything real or authentic, for sex was not constructed for a camera and is immediately twisted by the presence of the lens.

Porn is not a recording of sex. It’s something else.
