I have Christians often tell me that Jesus is coming back soon. They seem urgent about it and ready for the moment. I always have to smile because they are biblically correct. Jesus said He’d be back soon and the early church taught the same thing. I cannot argue with their Bible study.
But whatever “soon” is, we should understand after two thousand years that it is not the kind of “soon” as defined in our dictionaries. For when time is measured in increments of love, “soon” can be defined as a lot longer than anyone ever thought possible; for “the Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Pe 3:9).
